ABOUT
Overview
Over the years we have (like many of you) agonisingly watched on as wildlife, wilderness and people have come under increasing threat despite all the efforts to protect them. However, world change is possible. It is as simple making more impactful, informed and ethical decisions in our everyday life – from what products we buy to how we choose to spend our free time.
At the Eco Blog our philosophy is grounded in having respect for all life – with you, with wildlife, with nature and with the local communities which so depend on them.
Welcome to The Eco Blog – we are delighted to have you on board!
Our Mission
To find a balanced approach between conservation, communities and commerce by promoting a more united world where conservation of the planet and sustainability of communities must be at the core of every decision people make in their daily lives. We hope to co-create a family of hope, change and innovation, and that our message connects with people across the globe and inspires them to do the same.
Project Conservation
Recently we launched the non-profit program ‘Project Conservation’ which is a consumer movement that empowers you to help fund some of the serious issues that our planet currently faces. Project Conservation raises money for various charities, including orphanages, wildlife research, habitat protection and more. Money is raised through our online store where profits go to the supported charity. Also 50% of all paid advertising on our site goes towards charity .
So, a little about me then. Besides being a mother of three, I am an Amsterdam based certified yoga teacher and mindfulness trainer. My professional work life has been mainly within the travel and creative industry. I am on a mission to promote a more balanced life because I think it makes us healthier, happier and take better decisions in life. Tools as creative expression, mindfulness and everything good life has to offer are my main game! But of course, there’s also a bigger story.
Years ago my life took an unexpected turn. My then partner and love of my life, started showing signs of severe depression. After years of struggling to keep our little family, with three young children, together, things climaxed. His illness got worse and I had to make life changing decisions for the sake of my own and my children’s well-being. They say that there are certain events in your life that have so much impact that they change who you are as a human being. This was mine. I broke down completely. It took me quite a while a to recover, get back on my feet and start a new life for me and my children, without the support of a partner, or a father to play a role in the upbringing of our children.
I juggle, like every parent, balancing work, a household with children and a personal life. I would lie if I said it is easy. I do however pride myself for the learning journey I am permitting myself to take. I have consciously and continuously chosen to practice self-care. In my opinion one of the keys to a happier life!
Yoga teacher trainings and more recently my Mindfulness MBSR training have been a great part of that journey. Equally important has it been to pursue my creative passions like photography and writing. It has helped me find and recognize the importance of more moments of joy, peace and inner stillness.
Slow Escapes is really where all the dots connect. With roots in the Caribbean, Ireland and Asia and having lived and worked abroad, one of my greatest passions is traveling and connecting with people from all over the world. My pursuit for experiencing new things, combined with my passion for seeking esthetic off-the-beaten-track destinations and accommodations, learning about and enjoying good and healthy food and my background in yoga and mindfulness, will provide for the tools needed to make our retreats a mindful and magical experience.
Our retreats will make you feel nourished and inspired and you will bring back home practical tips and tricks to create more balance in your own life. And maybe you will even have a new clear direction of the life you wish to lead.
Along with eco products in our our e-store we also sell hand-made ethical products made from artisans in developing countries. We buy fair trade off them directly, and the money they receive from selling their hand-crafted item makes a huge positive impact in their life.
